Cambodia, Philippines agree to expand cooperation on Business, Defense and connectivity between the two countries

Melbourne, Australia: In a meeting held on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Melbourne, Australia, leaders from Cambodia and the Philippines have pledged to deepen their countries' cooperation in several key areas, including trade, defense, and connectivity. The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, and the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., convened on the morning of March 4, 2024, marking a pivotal moment for bilateral relations.

The meeting commenced with both leaders exchanging warm greetings and acknowledging the importance of this encounter as a valuable chance to discuss ways to enhance and broaden the scope of their partnership.

In the realm of trade, there was a mutual agreement to ease and boost the rice exportation from Cambodia to the Philippines and to foster private sector linkages. This initiative aims to open more avenues for trade between the two nations, potentially benefiting their economies significantly.

The conversation then turned to the topic of connectivity, with both parties recognizing tourism as a vital area for cooperation. The Prime Minister and the President concurred on the need to explore and encourage the establishment of more flight connections and tourism links, enriching the travel experience between Cambodia and the Philippines.

Defense cooperation also featured prominently in their discussions, with both leaders commending the existing military collaboration between their countries. They expressed a commitment to further strengthen and expand this partnership, with aspirations to conduct bilateral exercises in the future.
