Cambodian Livestock Sector Seen as Key Driver of Economic Growth

Phnom Penh: The Cambodian Livestock Breeders Association's President, Mr. Srun Pov, highlighted the crucial role of the livestock sector within the agricultural domain, emphasizing its substantial impact on the nation's economic expansion.

These remarks were made during the annual assembly of the Cambodian Breeders Association and a seminar focused on the livestock sector's achievements in Cambodia. The event, held on February 29, 2024, saw participation from the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, Mr. Dith Tina.

Mr. Pov elaborated on how livestock breeding not only bolsters the agricultural sector but also propels job creation, enhances the supply of local raw materials, and invigorates the activities of local small and medium enterprises.

Over the past decade, the livestock sector in Cambodia has seen remarkable growth, transitioning from traditional family-run operations to modern commercial ventures. This evolution has enabled the country to consistently meet local market demands and even venture into exporting some of its animal products.

"The livestock sector in Cambodia is pivotal for sustaining and advancing national economic growth," Mr. Pov asserted, emphasizing the sector's resilience and potential for future development.

During the event, Minister Dith Tina urged livestock and poultry entrepreneurs to adopt modern farming techniques and maintain high standards of hygiene. This approach aims to enhance the competitiveness of Cambodian meat products, ensuring food safety and securing a competitive edge in both domestic and regional markets.

Furthermore, Minister Tina expressed gratitude towards the stakeholders in animal husbandry, particularly the Cambodian Breeders Association, for their contributions. He encouraged continued collaboration to foster unity, alliance, and information exchange among industry participants. This collective effort is crucial for leveraging technology to balance production and market demands amidst the challenges of competitive regional markets.
