Cambodia and US Strengthen Military Ties for Global Peace and Stability

Phnom Penh: Cambodia and the United States (US) have reaffirmed their commitment to fostering collaboration in the military sphere. This renewed commitment aims to contribute to international peacekeeping, global stability, and development.

The pledge was made during a recent meeting between General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), and Jed Royal, Principal Deputy Assistant Director for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, at the RCAF headquarters in Phnom Penh.

General Vong Pisen highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two countries dating back to 1950. He specifically mentioned areas of past collaboration, such as human resources training, information exchange, counterterrorism efforts, humanitarian activities, and disaster response.

Mr. Royal expressed his admiration for Cambodia's rapid development and proposed avenues for strengthening military ties. These suggestions included enhanced US support for Cambodian demining efforts and improved selection processes for candidates seeking education at the US Security Center.

Additionally, the US is engaging with Cambodian alumni of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in recognition of the program's 10th anniversary.
