Phnom Penh: Japanese tech giant Minebea Cambodia is planning a significant expansion in the kingdom, with plans to establish a new special economic zone (SEZ) to facilitate a broader connected production chain.

The expansion strategy was discussed by Mr. Yoshihisa Kainuma, Director General of Minebea Cambodia, during a productive meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister, First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), at the CDC headquarters in Phnom Penh on February 21.

Minebea Cambodia, a key player in the nation's industrial sector and a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational conglomerate Minebea Mitsumi Inc., has been operational since 2011. Over the years, the company has shown a strong commitment to growth, consistently broadening its manufacturing capabilities.

The company's investment in Cambodia spans a diverse range of products, including small motors, fan motors, machine parts, and optical components for mobile phones. Additionally, Minebea Cambodia produces vibrators for computer games, LED backlights, components for blood glucose meters, and smart public lighting systems. Currently, the company is a major employer in the region, providing jobs to 6,911 individuals. This new investment initiative is set to further enhance Minebea Cambodia's contribution to the local economy and employment.
