Cambodia and U.S. Pledge Continued Cooperation in Health Sector

Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Cambodian Secretary of State Chum Sounry and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Mandy Cohen met today to discuss ongoing collaboration and future partnerships in healthcare.

Both officials emphasized their commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations in the health sector. Secretary Sounry recognized the CDC's contributions since establishing its Cambodian office in 2020, praising its work in combatting HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, and other infectious diseases. He also welcomed the ongoing partnership between the Ministry of Health and Pfizer.

Sounry expressed appreciation for USAID's recent announcement of a $35 million "Enhancing Quality of Healthcare Activity II" initiative to support Cambodia's healthcare improvement efforts.

Dr. Cohen thanked the Cambodian government for its support of the CDC's mission and pledged to further collaborate with the Ministry of Health. She highlighted the importance of aligning ongoing activities with Cambodia's "Pentagonal Strategy" to optimize healthcare delivery for the nation's citizens.
