Over 20,000 Liters of Counterfeit Alcohol Destroyed

Phnom Penh: A total of 701 barrels of counterfeit alcohol equivalent to 21,052 liters were burned in Phnom Penh. The destruction of the seized alcohols were conducted at a landfill in Dangkor district. According to the General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Anti-Fraud, the counterfeit alcohols were confiscated from different markets in the past months due to the harm it can cause to the people's health.

The Ministry of Commerce through the General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Anti-Fraud, has been active in cracking down on counterfeit products on the market during the Covid-19 pandemic. Alcohol has already become a part of the necessity oas the whole world suffers from the virus. Counterfeit alcohols which have been circulating in different markets in the kingdom have been confiscated and destroyed to protect people's health.

The report shows that in the first seven months of 2021, the General Department of Consumer Protection, Competition and Anti-Fraud inspected the quality of alcohol and all kinds of hand-washing gels in warehouses, markets and pharmacies in which they found and seized 96,737 liters while legal charges were sent to court against persons responsible for the circulation.
