Cambodia and Uganda Strengthen Ties, Explore New Partnerships

Phnom Penh: Cambodia and Uganda pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation during a meeting between high-ranking officials today. Secretary of State of Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chum Sounry, and Ugandan State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Okello Henry Oryem, discussed expanding partnerships in various sectors.

During his visit to Cambodia from February 4 to 7, 2024, aimed at fostering relations with the Kingdom, His Excellency Okello Henry Oryem, along with Chum Sounry, agreed on the importance of working towards signing several bilateral agreements. Among the proposed documents is a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Bilateral Consultations between their respective Ministries of Foreign Affairs. This MoU is expected to serve as a foundational platform for exploring avenues to enhance cooperation between Cambodia and Uganda.

The discussions also highlighted a mutual commitment to deepening cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, and tourism, and emphasized the importance of facilitating direct interactions between the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries. Additionally, the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss collaborative efforts on international platforms.

Expressing gratitude towards Uganda for its commendable hosting of the 3rd G77 Summit and the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Secretary of State Chum Sounry assured Cambodia's full support for Uganda's mission as the Chair of NAM from 2024 to 2027. Cambodia, as a founding member of NAM, stands ready to support Uganda in successfully carrying out its responsibilities, highlighting the solid foundation of cooperation and mutual support between the two countries on the international stage.
