PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the relevant authorities to review all forms of alcohol advertising, especially public billboards, as a way to address drunk driving accidents in Cambodia.
On February 2, the PM presided over a Council of Ministers meeting where he pitched ideas to lower the rate of accidents caused by driving under the influence of alcohol.
He instructed the Ministry of Information to cooperate with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Commerce to set up a specific executive group to monitor alcohol advertising. The decision is part of a wider campaign the government has recently implemented to address alcohol abuse in Cambodia, including banning women and children from appearing in alcohol ads and disseminating information on the dangers of drunk driving.
The PM has also asked the police to better enforce traffic laws, especially when it comes to suspected driving under the influence.
