Minister of Justice Gives Courts 2 Months to Wrap Up 6,000 Civil Complaints

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Justice urged all judges to expedite the settlements of the remaining 6,000 open civil complaint cases by the end of March 2024.

At a seminar for the Ministry’s trial courts on January 24, Minister Keut Rith instructed judges to resolve open cases as soon as possible. He warned them not to forge documents or accept bribes while closing about 6,000 cases over the next two months.

On January 9, the Minister held a press conference where he said if citizens are having trouble resolving their cases in court, whether it’s because the process is slow or a bribe is being demanded, they can file a complaint with the Secretariat of the Committee for Resolving Case Congestion in Capital-Provincial Courts.
