Cambodia-Thailand Relations Growing under New Leadership

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia and neighboring Thailand both received new prime ministers on August 22, 2023. According to both governments, bilateral relations have only strengthened under the new leadership and have benefited both national economies and the living standards of people in both countries.

On January 10, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet met with Thai Ambassador Cherdkiat Atthakor at the Peace Palace. The meeting highlighted the progress of friendly relations and strong cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand and confirmed the two countries’ commitment to pushing for an even stronger and closer relationship. Cambodia was the first country Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin paid an official state visit to in September 2023, making him the first foreign official to pay a visit to Prime Minister Hun Manet.

The Thai ambassador said his country warmly anticipates Prime Minister Hun Manet’s official visit to Thailand in the near future. According to Thai PBS World, the state visit will take place on February 7.

While meeting with the Thai Ambassador, Prime Minister Hun Manet thanked Thailand for its commitment to ever-improving relations and lauded the progress of cooperation in areas like trade, tourism and people-to-people contacts.
