Ministry of Social Affairs Teams Up with JICA to Help Trafficking Survivors

PHNOM PENH: Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, Nhek Vannara, chaired the first meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) to develop a project to assist survivors of human trafficking on November 7 at the Phnom Penh Hotel.

Sec. Nhek Vannara said that the Ministry of Social Affairs pays attention to all cases of human trafficking and that he had arranged the meeting to discuss all matters related to the fight against human trafficking with the main goal of helping the victims.

Also in attendance was Senior Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Yanagawa Shinji, who instructed all relevant stakeholders to work together in various sectors to achieve maximum results.

The JICA is cooperating with the Ministry of Social Affairs to address the humanitarian crime in three target provinces: Banteay Meanchey, Tbong Khmum and Siem Reap.

The project aims to enhance and strengthen the capacity to provide services for survivors of trafficking, with a focus on addressing multiple barriers to meet their needs. The JICA representative said his organization looks forward to the cooperation and collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs and all relevant organizations to ensure that the project achieves significant results in supporting survivors.

The two organizations’ technical staffs were able to agree on many points to help victims of trafficking, resulting in a successful meeting.
