NA President Asks China to Help Promote Positive Image of Cambodia to Boost Tourism

PHNOM PENH: President of Cambodia’s National Assembly, Khuon Sudary, requested that the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee for China’s Congress, Lou Qinjian, help promote Cambodia to Chinese tourists.

This request was made during Lou Qinjian’s visit to Cambodia, where he met with the National Assembly President on November 6.

The NA President’s Chief of Cabinet, Keo Piseth, reported on the meeting during a press conference. “Chinese tourists used to be one of the largest tourism groups in Cambodia. Therefore, we ask that partners please contribute to the promotion of tourism in Cambodia again”.

On August 4, Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism announced the launch of “China Ready,” a nationwide program that aims to improve Chinese-language services and “provide standardized services to Chinese travelers.”

According to Keo Piseth, Lou Qinjian agreed to promote cooperation in tourism and investment to Cambodia.

As of July 2023, Cambodia received about three million visitors, of which about 310,000 came from China (more than 230,000 on business and over 80,000 tourists).

In this morning's meeting, the two leaders also discussed the strengthening of ties and friendship between the two countries in regard to their “Diamond Cooperation” which seeks to take their cooperation to the next level.

The President of the National Assembly requested that China provide technical training to the Secretariat of the General Secretariat so that the National Assembly can achieve its vision of transforming the National Assembly into a digital parliament in line with the technological age and increase the efficiency of service for MPs.
