Koh Kong Governor Offers $1,000 Reward for Identity of Man Who Murdered Deer

KOH KONG: A video showing a man beating a swimming deer to death at Kok Hav Beach has gone viral on social media, causing outrage from the public who are demanding justice and swift legal action.

According to the Facebook page of Koh Kong’s Kirisakor District on October 30, Deputy District Governor, Toun Ooty, is leading a force to cooperate with the rangers from the Department of Environment to search for the suspects.

Former Information Minister Khieu Kanharith also chimed in on the video, expressing his disappointment. “Maybe it’s my old age? But today I lost my good feeling when I saw Cambodians beating and killing a deer who was trying to swim. [It is so different] from a previous photo, which showed people on the outskirts of Phnom Penh stopping traffic so that a python could cross the road. ”

On Tuesday morning, Koh Kong Governor Mithona Phuthong, announced on Facebook that she will provide an incentive of 4 million Riels (almost $1,000) to anyone who provides information on the identity of the person who violently murdered the deer.

"In connection to the above case, I would like to encourage a reward of 4,000,000 Riels (four million Riels) to those who can provide information on the identity of the perpetrator of the inhumane act in this video. For those who provide this information, we will keep it confidential,” she said.

She added that the incident was a disgusting display of immorality and injustice that causes serious harm to society. The provincial governor called on the public to help the authorities arrest the perpetrators and punish them according to the law.
