PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation organized a training course for its officials on how to communicate with the media and the public to get their message clear.

PR Director for QED, Glen Felgate, led a full day of training for the officials where he offered advice, allowed for questions and led a seminar on how to effectively write a press release. Mr. Felgate has been in Cambodia for around 20 years and has extensive experience in the unique landscape of the Cambodian media. His ten years as a journalist working with BBC, Reuters and Skynet among others, gives him an informed perspective on how to communicate policy effectively.

Mr. Felgate informed the trainees of the structure of the media and the importance of interacting with the media and the public in a way that correctly conveys their message. He also gave attendees the opportunity to write their own press releases and receive constructive feedback.

Speaking on behalf of Social Affairs Minister Chea Somethy, Sec. of State Em Chan Makara said that the training course is very important for officials to be able to respond quickly, efficiently and truthfully to questions from the public and the media. He also hopes the ministry will better promote the good work it does for the community.

"Script writing skills to publicize our activities are essential, adding value to both speeches and reports," he said.

Em Chan Makara advised the trainees to make the most of the training so that the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation can improve their messaging and continue their mission to improve the lives of Cambodians by building a social security net and increasing accessibility for all.
