UNDP Continues to Support Cambodia’s Digital Development

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications thanked the representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Cambodia for its willingness and commitment to contribute to the development of Cambodia's digital, economic and social sector.

On the afternoon of October 25, Minister Chea Vandeth met with Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Cambodia (UNDP), Alissar Chaker, to strengthen partnerships and strategies for accelerating Cambodia’s digital revolution and digital human resource development.

During the meeting, Alissar Chaker thanked the Minister for taking the time to allow her and her colleagues to meet with them and congratulated them on their achievements in the field of digital technology in Cambodia.

She also briefed the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications on UNDP's continued commitment to assisting Cambodia in achieving its 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and preparing the country to leave the list of Least Developed Countries (LDCs). She particularly expressed support for Cambodia’s vision of becoming a high-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.

Chea Vandeth mentioned the progress of the Ministry in the formulation of policies, laws and regulations on human resource development through scholarship programs, digital skills development programs, the promotion of digital capture, and the development of competitions related to digital skills. He said the government is preparing to build a national data center, establish a digital nursery, and build digital connectivity infrastructure to improve the quality of telecommunications services to meet the growing demand.

The Minister of Posts also briefed the UNDP Representative on the Ministry’s work to develop digital technology within other ministries, institutions and economic sectors and thanked her for the UNDP’s continued assistance to Cambodia’s development.
