PHNOM PENH: According to Phnom Penh’s Department of Public Works and Transport, the bridge spanning across the river from Koh Pich to Koh Nora was temporarily opened by order of the Prime Minister starting October 20 at 6 am to reduce traffic congestion at the construction site of the Monivong flyover.

The bridge is 844m long, 24.5m wide, has 2 lanes for cars, 1 motorbike lane and 1 pedestrian lane on each side, as well as a shortcut under the bridge along the banks of the Koh Pich and Koh Nora. The construction of the bridge began on October 26, 2020 under the presidency of former Prime Minister Hun Sen and it’s official inauguration date is yet to be determined.

This bridge is important infrastructure to relieve heavy traffic congestion from Monivong Bridge and Chbar Ampov Bridge. Once the bridge is officially complete, the Royal Government plans to build two more bridges across the river in Phnom Penh, namely the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge and a bridge from Chak Angre to Prek Pra near the new Aeon Mall in Mean Chey.
