Bank of China Aims to Increase Investment to Cambodia

CHINA: Ge Haijiao, Chairman/Executive Director at the Bank of China (BOC), is scheduled to visit Cambodia next month with the aim of promoting and expanding cooperation in finance between Cambodia and China by introducing new financial products and providing the Bank of China’s rich experience in financial progress.

The Chinese businessman and politician met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet while attending the Third Belt and Road Forum in Beijing on October 16, 2023. During the meeting, Ge Haijiao informed the PM of his bank’s support for more investment from China to Cambodia, citing the development and progress made under former Prime Minister Hun Sen, especially in the financial sector. He expressed hope that business will continue to grow under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet in the era of the digital economy.

Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated the BOC on its global success and appreciated the group’s promise to strengthen relations in Cambodia following ten years of successful contribution to the Kingdom’s financial sector, in addition to promoting trade between the two countries.

He also stressed the importance of active individual networking within the financial sector, which has led to tourism growth. He was happy to see cooperation in things like cross-border payments using the Yuan and the Riel, which ultimately contributes to the promotion of local currency and encouraging tourism and international trade.
