Police Arrest One of Four Assailants from Video Posted on Facebook

PHNOM PENH: On September 24, police arrested one of four suspects who beat a young woman in a guesthouse last week after the victim accused them of stealing her shoes.

Phnom Penh Municipal Police Commissioner, Major General Chuon Narin, issued the arrest warrant on September 20 for intentional aggravated assault. A video posted to Facebook, presumably taken by one of the assailants, showed the attack happening on September 12 at a guest house on Street 271 in Phnom Penh’s Meanchey District. The assailants severely injured the young woman who had visible injuries to her eyes, ears and abdomen.

The arrested suspect is currently being referred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for further proceedings. As for the other three, the Deputy Commissioner for Criminal Police Planning, Colonel Bun Satya, confirmed to EAC News that the authorities are continuing to investigate the case and will take legal action without exception.
