Cambodia Prepares to Host Global Conference on Assisting Explosion Victims

PHNOM PENH: The Mine Authority hosted an inter-ministerial meeting to prepare for the third “Global Conference on Assisting, Landmine and other Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) Victims and Survivors in the context of Disability Rights” took be held from October 17-19.

On September 21, Mine Authority VP Ly Thuch chaired the meeting and said that over 40 countries will participate in the event, which is being held in cooperation with the Implementation Support Unit of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (ISU-APMBC). Speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Hun Manet and the Cambodian people, Ly Thuch said he was proud that Cambodia is the first country in Asia and the first developing country to host the conference, which operates under the Ottawa Convention, of which Cambodia became a State Party member in 2000.

He requested all stakeholders to work closely together, paying careful attention to all aspects needed to provide a warm welcome to the delegations that are invited to attend the Global Conference. He said the three day event is an honor to host and will bring great benefits to the country and the people of Cambodia.
