Police Officer Falls from Building Trying to Evade Arrest on Drug Charges

PHNOM PENH: A police officer died after falling from the 37th floor of a high-rise building while running from the police on suspected drug activity in the early morning of September 20.

According to a spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Drug Department, a deputy inspector for the Prek Pnov district on the outskirts of Phnom Penh had been sought for arrest on suspicion of drug crimes Tuesday night. In an attempt to escape arrest, the man ran to the 37th floor of the Skyline Apartment building a few blocks west of the Central Market, where he dangled out a window, lost his grip, and plummeted to his death.

Spokesperson In Song did not elaborate on any further details of the incident, which was initially described by reporters who witnessed the man’s gruesome death around 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
