Over a Quarter Million Workers Received Vocational Training 2018-2022

PHNOM PENH: A report issued by the Ministry of Labor recently lauded the achievements of former Prime Minister Hun Sen’s administration during its last five-year term, saying that over 270,000 workers had received technical and vocational education and training (TVET) from 2018-2022.

In 2022 alone, 73,672 people completed their TVET, about 27% of which were women. Another 16,719 workers graduated from levels 1, 2, and 3 of technical and vocational training during the same year. Additionally, another 12,269 workers completed their university and associate degrees in technical skills. In the 2020-2021 academic year, The Ministry of Labor provided around 19, 179 TVET scholarships in the fields of engineering and technology.

During its 7th mandate from 2023-2028, the Royal Government has set an ambitious target to provide training to 1.5 million youth from poor and vulnerable families. Since the inauguration in August, the new administration has held talks with representatives from Japan, France and Turkey about the exchange of technical and vocational training to help Cambodia improve the quality of its labor force as it aims to achieve high-income status by 2050.
