Thai Man Kills Family after Falling Victim to Online Scam

BANTEAY MEANCHEY: The Cambodian National Police joined with the Royal Thai Police to arrest four Thai nationals hiding in Poipet in connection with an online scam that resulted in the murder of a Thai family.

Authorities say the four suspects ran an online scam on a man who subsequently murdered his wife and two children, then attempted suicide in Thailand’s Samut Prakan on August 28. Banteay Meanchey authorities arrested the four online scammers in Poipet on September 9 after collaborating with the Royal Thai Police to gain more information.

The operation comes a week after Cambodia’s National Police Commissioner Sar Thet met with Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, Surachate Hakparn, on September 4. The two police officials discussed further strengthening and expanding the cooperation between the National Police of Cambodia and the Royal Thai Police in order to achieve better results in crime prevention and countermeasures on transnational crime.
