PHNOM PENH: The Royal Government issued a sub-decree to establish the National Committee for Coordination of Information and Public Opinion to protect the achievements and reputation of the Cambodian government.
The new committee will be responsible for strengthening public opinion by monitoring situations in order to propagate, explain and protect Cambodia's positive image. The committee’s focus will be on defending national sovereignty, promoting the government’s achievements and building a positive image to promote Cambodia's prestige both domestically and internationally.
It is also responsible for responding to false information via a prompt one-person response mechanism and enhancing its digital strategy by initiating the production of all kinds of content to strengthen public opinion, while collaborating with the media to share content and disseminate reports among other duties.
The sub-decree instructs spokespeople for ministries, institutions and provincial administrations to consult the committee for clarification on all issues related to implementing new policies.
The National Committee for Coordination of Information and Public Opinion will have a secretariat for day-to-day operations, located at the Office of the Council of Ministers. Resources for the committee come from the annual budget of the Council of Ministers.
