PHNOM PENH: Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra announced internal reform of his ministry which aims to modern the institution by preparing the workplace with sufficient materials and training officials on digital platforms.
In a meeting with Ministry of Information leaders on the afternoon of August 29, Neth Pheaktra said he will reform the institution to accelerate work output in line with the evolution of modern society. First and foremost, he noted that officials must have a well-stocked place to work with modern equipment that reflects Cambodia’s ascent into the digital age.
"I will address this issue first for these 70 Secretaries of State and Undersecretaries of State so that they have a suitable place to work for the ministry's leadership. If all the ministry's leaders do not have a place to work and no material to support their work, it is like a division. There is only a commander, without a command; so organizing this work is a priority that I will address first." He said.
Another institutional upgrade aims to train officials in technology so that they can be up-to-date in digital society. He said his ministry will be collaborating with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Public Function, and the Royal School of Administration to train human resources to modernize the Ministry of Information.
He added that a good leadership plan must have capable human resources in order for it to be implemented effectively. He said, "We need to think about human resources. I would like to announce that leadership in the Ministry of Information will be based on ability. You cannot use money to gain a position [here].”
He said that from now on, recruited officials will be subject to examinations to determine capable candidates to replace those who are retiring and that those who score highest on the exams will fill the vacancies.
