Heavy Rains Expected as Super Typhoon Saola Weakens Over SEA Peninsula

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology says Cambodia can expect to see the effects of a weakening typhoon from August 28 to September 3, causing an increase in rainfall and heavy winds.

According to the ministry, Cambodia will be affected by a prolonged low pressure system that is expected to reach over northern Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. It also noted that remnants of Super Typhoon Saola will be traversing the country as it makes its way from the northeastern Philippines, making landfall in southeast China on September 2.

The combined weather phenomena are expected to produce moderate to heavy rainfall in the central lowlands and coastal areas along with thunder storms and heavy winds. The highlands can expect light to moderate thunderstorms as well.

The ministry especially warned coastal regions of rough seas with powerful winds ahead.
