PM Appoints Former Police Chief as Second-in-Command

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Manet officially named his right-hand man, who will be Acting Prime Minister when he is away on official business. His new Cabinet contains ten deputy prime ministers, with DPM Neth Savoeun, former National Police Chief, being designated as his second-in-command.

In a decision from August 22, Prime Minister Hun Manet appointed Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun to assist the PM in the fields of national security and public order. This means that in the absence of the prime minister, the DPM will be in command of the National Gendarmerie to help guide the authorities, committees, councils under the Royal Government’s domain. He will also be in charge of other special tasks and missions as assigned by the prime minister.

In the event that both Prime Minster and Neth Savoeun are absent, Minister of Economy Aun Pornmoniroth is third-in-command.
