PHNOM PENH: Before leaving office next week, Prime Minister Hun Sen invited journalists to dine at the Peace Palace and receive medals for their coverage of his activities in the past.

Speaking at the ceremony on the evening of August 14, Prime Minister Hun Sen expressed his approval of all the journalists who worked hard to cover his activities. He noted that eight days later, he would be resigning as prime minister to give the next generation the opportunity to lead and maintain peace in the country.

Despite his resignation, he emphasized that his political work will not be finished and he will be able to meet with journalists and the people during his upcoming tenure as President of the Senate.

A total of 151 leaders and members of the media were awarded medals by the Prime Minister on the evening of August 14. After his speech and distributing medals, the PM hosted a dinner with the journalists in a convivial atmosphere.

Prime Minister Hun Sen will resign his position on August 22, clearing space for his son, Dr. Hun Manet to take over for the government’s 7th term, since elections were established in 1993. This will be the first time Cambodia has had a different leader in over 38 years.
