BREAKING NEWS: Cambodia Uses Two Helicopters for Immediate Distrubution of AstraZeneca Vaccines to the Borders

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen has ordered the immediate transport of the AstraZeneca vaccines to the Cambodian-Thai borders on Saturday. He has instructed to start administering the AstraZeneca vaccines as boosters shots to the frontline workers on Sunday.

Ministry of Heath Spokesperson, Dr. Or Vandine says that six of the Cambodia-Thailand borders will start vaccinating the booster shots tomorrow, 8 August. This will be conducted in the provinces of Pailin, Battambang, Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Pusat and Preah Vihear. She has added that these vaccines will be given to the doctors and other health personnel at risk of contracting the Delta variant of Covid-19 due to the large flock of migrant workers from Thailand returning to Cambodia. In another announcement, the Ministry of Health has included the province of Koh Kong that will conduct vaccination for the frontline workers with AstraZeneca booster shots.

On Friday evening, Prime Minister Hun Sen has reiterated that the Royal Government of Cambodia will use the AstraZeneca vaccines donated by Japan and the United Kingdom to provide booster shots of the frontline workers as wells as government officials who have been vaccinated with Sinopharm and Sinovac vaccines. This was decided by the Prime Minister after Ministry of Health has figured out that the two-week interval between the first and second dose of the Chinese vaccines provide lower efficacy than the three-week interval. Prime Minister Hun Sen decided to proceed with the plan of providing the booster shots despite World Health Organization's calling for booster shots moratorium until late September as the kingdom continues to record Delta cases every day.
