Strong Winds and Big Waves Expected on Cambodian Seas this Week

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology issued a notice on July 25, detailing the anticipated weather in Cambodia which will be affected by the prolonged low pressure system on the upper Mekong basin through Thailand, Laos and central Vietnam with moderate southwest monsoon winds, which are expected to cause rough seas for coastal areas.

In the eastern Pacific Ocean, the season’s fifth typhoon, named Dok Suri, is making its way to China between the Philippines and Taiwan, and could reach the mainland by July 28.

From July 26-August 1, the ministry says the Cambodian coast can expect moderate to heavy rainfall in the coastal areas mixed with thunderstorms, strong winds, and big waves. The coastal area temperatures will range from 24-26 degrees over the next week.

Cambodia’s interior central lowlands and highlands can expect temperatures between 22-25 degrees in addition to light to moderate rainfall, while the highlands and northwest provinces could receive storms and high winds.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology calls on people to be more vigilant against possible dangerous weather phenomena.

Maritime authorities called on tourists and those who work at sea to be very careful when traveling along the coast and islands in Cambodian waters to avoid any danger.
