Rangers Rescue Seven Endangered Tortoises in Cardamoms

Pursat: Animal rangers have rescued seven critically-endangered elongated tortoises and have released them into their protected habitat in the Cardamom Mountains. The animals are considered to be at high risk of extinction, with people often trapping them for food, or selling on as exotic pets.

Wildlife Alliance took to Facebook to announce that the rangers had confiscated a total of 92 turtle and tortoise species. In 2020, the WA’s Wildlife Rapid Rescue Team rescued 262 more. Wildlife Alliance has set up a hotline for those wishing to report potentially illegal activity in the wildlife black market. People can reach the Wildlife Crime Hotline on 012 500 094. They can also contact the Wildlife Alliance through their Facebook page.
