Ministry Denies Owning Lexus Seen Campaigning for CPP

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Agriculture denied owning a Lexus that was seen campaigning and called the government license plate pictured a fake.

A picture of the vehicle, bearing a green state license plate, has been circulating social media and bringing accusations that state property is being used to promote the ruling Cambodian People’s Party. The Ministry of Agriculture said it does not have a Lexus 470 in its inventory and that the license plate is fake and those using it should be held legally responsible.

Advocacy coordinator for election monitor Comfrel reported that they had not yet investigated the one report they received involving a state license plate. However, they did confirm that their team had found about four instances of cars without plates being used in CPP campaigning.
