SIEM REAP: A new war museum in Siem Reap will carry the name of Prime Minister Hun Sen, which he formalized by signing a memorandum circular on July 7. The “Techo Peace Museum” carries the PM’s honorific, which in Khmer is extended to Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
Heng Ratana, director-general of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), made the announcement of the new museum’s name of July 13 and thanked the Prime Minister for bestowing such a meaningful moniker on the museum. The museum will focus on Cambodia’s civil war and the nation’s subsequent recovery. Meant to be a supplement the history reinforced at the Win-Win monument in Phnom Penh, the museum will display war memorabilia and weapons, tell stories of the people who lived through it and discuss the aftermath of the decades-long civil war.
Heng Ratana said, "The Peace Museum aims to educate visitors about the sorrow, sadness, loss, separation, tragedy, and destruction brought about by war. These experiences should prompt visitors to condemn war and recognise the immense value of peace.”
