INTERNATIONAL: Authorities in China's Guangdong province confirmed that a 25-year-old man killed six people, including some children, and injured one more at a kindergarten on Monday morning. Local media reported that the attack was carried out with a knife.

The incident caused panic online, becoming the top-trending discussion on the domestic social platform Weibo, with 290 million views by 13:50 local time (5:50 GMT). Many users called for the attacker to be given the death sentence.

The attack follows two other kindergarten stabbings in China in recent years. In August 2022, three people were killed and six injured in a stabbing attack at a kindergarten in the same province. In 2021, two children were killed and 16 injured in a stabbing attack at a kindergarten in another province.

The recent spate of kindergarten stabbings has raised concerns about school safety in China. The government has responded by increasing security measures at schools, but it remains to be seen whether these measures will be effective in preventing future attacks.
