Civil Servants and Contractors to Be Included in Pregnancy Benefits Come August

KANDAL: Prime Minister Hun Sen ordered the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Labor to help formulate a new policy to help pregnant government employees and government contractors receive additional benefits.

Speaking at a meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Kandal province, on the morning of June 29, the PM said that he had already signed a sub-decree for a new state policy regarding pregnant workers that will be implemented in August.

The new policy will provide additional benefits to pregnant workers, who will receive 80,000 Riel (around $20 USD) on their first hospital visit. The state will also provide a stipend upon giving birth: $200 USD for one child, $250 USD for twins and $350 USD for triplets. The government will also provide $20 USD for ten postnatal check-ups for parent and child.

The PM also announced that this policy will also be applied to civil servants and contracted employees of the state. He ordered the Minister of Economy and relevant ministries to prepare this policy.
