Since last April, Chaktomuk Short Film Festival (CSFF) has launched its new edition, opening its call for submission to short filmmakers till the 15th of July, at 23:59 (Cambodia time). Now that there remains less than a month to go, the festival is reminding all interested filmmakers to finalize their short films!
Organized by SFA, as a CSFF’s filmmaker campaign, Chaktomuk Film Insight (CFI) this year will be conducted differently from previous editions, featuring orientation, combined with some hands-on practices, expected to reinforce the participants’ understanding to another level. This experience sharing session will feature Mr. SOK Chanrado, co-champion of CSFF 2022 through his winning title “Sound of the Night”.
“To encourage submissions to the festival, and invigorate young filmmakers and film enthusiasts, these practical experience CFIs aim to bring something new and exciting to the workshop format in terms of structure and quality. We have also partnered with the Acting Academy, to give our participants a taste of what it means to work with professionally trained actors. Also, we were generously sponsored by Need Image Studio to give our participants the best learning environment for such a session. We hope this new structure proves successful and brings something unique to the filmmaking community. And that we can continue with new and improved versions as we progress”, stated Mr. Sansitny RUTH, CSFF 2023 Manager.
Like last year, besides fiction and documentaries, CSFF continues to accept music videos and animations, as long as their maximum lengths do not each exceed 30 minutes. CSFF-XII will feature the following competitive categories:
.Best Cambodian Short Film
.First Runner-Up Cambodian Short Film
.Best International Short Film (NEW)
.Audience Award for Local Short Films
.Audience Award for International Short Films
.Special Jury Mention for Local Short Films
.Special Jury Mention for International Short Films
Since its new edition launch, CSFF has been officially supported by Cambodian Living Arts, through Dam Dos Grant and Everything About Cambodia as its media partner. The festival is also looking for more financial support, especially with cash prizes to its upcoming well-deserved champions in the categories above.
About Sunflower Film Alliance
Operated since late 2017, Sunflower Film Alliance (SFA), considered a youth collective under Sunflower Film Organization (SFO), gathers volunteer members, across Cambodia, with film interest and skills, aged between 15 and 40. This organization itself was officially registered with the Ministry of Interior as a non-profit organization on March 13, 2019.
SFA itself has produced and co-produced, since late 2017,“Family and You” omnibus series (2017), “Kon Khnhom” TV show with TVK and many short films like “The Colour” selected in Cambodia International Film Festival 2023. Since 2019, SFA has organized “Let’s Document Cambodia”, training over 200 Cambodian youth from Phnom Penh and various provinces and indigenous communities in making short documentaries. Our aim is to promote the understanding about film production to build a more robust Cambodian film industry, organizing training courses and showcasing their works on social media, cinemas, festivals, including its own flagship Chaktomuk Short Film Festival, as well as its provincial and overseas allies. As such, Cambodian young filmmakers will be better known on the international stage.
