PM Holding Out Hope for Cambodia’s Future in Oil

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen said that he expects that Cambodia can find oil sources within its borders, which it could potentially refine for sale on the international market.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Bak Kheng water treatment plant in Phnom Penh's Chroy Changvar district on the morning of June 19, the PM said that a Singaporean oil refinery with exclusive rights to the Cambodian coastal area had gone bankrupt before Cambodian oil was able to be exported.

He added that Cambodia could have a lot potential in the oil market, with possible findings in the Tonle Sap region, on land and in the Cambodian sea.

"Hopefully, Cambodia can find oil in the Tonle Sap Lake on land and in the sea," he said.
