PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen said that the new election law he proposed will restrict any activities that destroy the rights of the people.
Addressing a crowd of nearly 20,000 workers on the morning of June 14, the PM Hun Sen said that since learning of the opposition’s intent to discourage people from voting in the upcoming election, the Interior Minister and Minister of Justice have been working day and night on a new law that will increase restrictions and fines on those who incite people not to vote. Yesterday, he outlined his plan to ban candidates from running for office who do not vote. He hopes the National Assembly will pass the law before the election next month.
Additionally, he said that any opposition party following the orders of “outside entities” will be dissolved.
