PHNOM PENH: Australia is working with Cambodia to improve production and food safety standards through research and development and establishing legal frameworks.

According to the Australian Embassy in Cambodia, the two countries have developed guidelines for labelling plant protection products (like pesticides and nutrients) to produce food that is safe for consumption. They also set up a QR code system to help farmers verify product quality and avoid counterfeit products.

Through the Cambodia-Australia Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development (CAPRED) program, work is underway on regulations under the Plant Protection and Hygiene Act, in particular the National Standard on Maximum Waste Levels. The program aims to help Cambodia develop a sustainable, environmentally friendly and resilient economy where social equality and climate resilience are integrated into all activities.
