Cambodia Donates $300,000 USD to Myanmar Disaster Relief

PHNOM PENH: In the midst of political unrest, Myanmar suffered an additional blow last month from Cyclone Mocha, a category-5 storm which left hundreds dead and many more without food, shelter or safety. According to a UN report, the cyclone's impact has eroded community support systems among affected populations, creating food scarcity, unemployment and an education emergency, with about 80% of school buildings damaged ahead of the new school year.

At a handover ceremony this morning, Sec. of State for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nhim Khemara, gifted a donation of $300,000 USD to Myanmar’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Thit Linn Onh. Sec. Khemara extended his deepest condolences to the people of Myanmar who have suffered a huge loss of life, property and safety. According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the gesture was meant to forge a bond of solidarity and friendship with Myanmar with a view to contribute to the recovery process.
