Oliva Kong Sets the Fashion World Ablaze with Kalkin: The Royalty

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian fashion designer Oliva Kong has once again surpassed all expectations with his latest collection, “Kalkin Spring/Summer 2023: The Royalty.” Unveiled on May 27, 2023, at the Sun and Moon Riverside Hotel, the show attracted a sparkling array of local and international celebrities, including the likes of iconic Cambodian actress Dy Saveth, Meng Keo Pichenda, Mean Sonyta, and Thierry Chantha Bin, among others.

Yok Chinda and her daughter hosted the show in Khmer and English. A mesmerizing Boung Soung Dance opened the event, setting an enchanting atmosphere. Then, as the stage opened to reveal the inaugural runway, models gracefully exhibited KH7's latest products. Adding to the charm was KH7's CEO, Sokunthea Imm, adorned in Oliva Kong's very own Queen of the Golden Elephant outfit - a sight to behold.

Subsequently, after the Tep Monorom Dance interlude, it was time for the Kalkin Kid’s collection. The youthful parade, featuring models as young as four, sparked genuine delight. The audience was especially enamored by the young guest model Kdeb, whose spirited runway walk and dynamic dress twirling captured hearts.

Following an Apsara dance, the stage was set for the main event - the “Kalkin Spring/Summer 2023: The Royalty” collection. It was a glamorous procession of pageant queens and influencers like Sary Sovattey, Daa Dao, Kon Ant, and Chily Tevy. As models strutted down the runway, a quartet of artists performed the Lkhom Khaol Dance, enhancing the overall spectacle.

The outfits were modern with traditional twists while some had portraits of people that inspired Oliva such as Prime Minister Hun Sen and First Lady Bun Rany, the SEA Games 2023, Sinn Sisamouth, Ros Sereysothea, and Ampor Tevi.

But the pièce de résistance was undoubtedly Nikki Nikki, the muse of the night. Cloaked in a dazzling dress inspired by Sbek Thom arts and infused with lights, she commanded attention. Weighing an incredible 30kg, the dress was a testament to high fashion aesthetics and engineering. Halfway down the runway, the lighting dimmed, revealing the glow of her extraordinary garment, which left everyone in awe.

After the runway, when all the models left the stage, Oliva invited Dy Saveth, Meng Keo Pichenda, and Voan Savay to the stage to show his appreciation. Meng Keo Pichenda expressed her happiness regarding the collection and especially at the outfit with her face on it.

But there's more to Oliva Kong. His high-fashion couture label, Queen Victoria, and his Design and Catwalk school, are also something to note. Fans can look forward to his next spectacle at Milan Fashion Week, where he's scheduled to present his collection in September 2023. With his creative genius, Oliva Kong continues to redefine the boundaries of fashion, inspiring a new generation of fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
