PM Inaugurates New Building at Sihamoni Raja Buddhist University

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen presided over the inauguration of a new school building at the Sihamoni Raja Buddhist University in Phnom Penh on the morning of May 30. The building was made possible by the support of Prime Minister Hun Sen, First Lady Bun Rany and philanthropists, costing nearly $2 million USD.

The PM was pleased to see the new building open as it will contribute to training human resources for Cambodia's education sector. He also noted that the standards for postgraduate studies, which include masters and doctoral degrees, must be raised. He pushed for a more effective hiring process that attracts experienced and outstanding professors that can improve the reputation of Cambodian postgraduate degrees.

He also requested that the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports find strategies to improve the effectiveness of the Thesis Defense Committee, whose standards should be stricter and better enforced when it comes to students’ final thesis submissions.

The Prime Minister announced that he would next help build a dormitory for students at the university, along with instructing the Governor of Phnom Penh to arrange the construction of a concrete road for the campus.

The Prime Minister also honored the requests of 28 teachers and staff to join the Ministry of Cults and Religion as government officials during the ceremony.
