Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway Project

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) held a meeting to prepare for the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway and accompanying bridge, which will soon be underway.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport chaired a meeting with the ministry’s leaders and technical officers on May 15, 2023 to allocate roles and responsibilities so that the leadership, management and coordination of the program can run smoothly, safely and effectively and function according to the division of labor.

The Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway will be the second expressway in Cambodia with a length of 135 km, and a budget of more than $2 billion USD. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026 or early 2027. The construction site is set to be officially opened on June 7, 2023 with Prime Minister Hun Sen presiding.
