Gen. Hun Manet Sees Cambodian Chamber of Commerce as an Indispensable Partner

PHNOM PENH: Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Army, General Hun Manet, stated that the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce is an indispensable partner of the Royal Government in the process of socio-economic development, while the Royal Government will focus more on private sector development as well as efforts to attract high-value added investment.

Gen. Hun Manet attended a dinner with members of the 5th mandate of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce on May 14, 2023 at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center, during which he said that the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce has played an effective role in promoting the success of the Royal Government in solving challenges, promoting the business community and developing the private sector in Cambodia.

He congratulated the President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and the President of the Phnom Penh Chamber of Commerce, Okna Kith Meng, as well as the presidents of all provincial Chambers of Commerce who were elected in the fifth mandate this year. He also praised Cambodian Chambers of Commerce abroad, which have contributed to the economic and social development of Cambodia by supporting the business community, creating opportunities for communication within the international business network, promoting trade and investment, and promoting friendship and solidarity between local and foreign Cambodians.

Gen. Hun Manet said that the Royal Government clearly acknowledges that the private sector is the most important player because the growth of the private sector means the growth of society as a whole. He stressed that the Royal Government will make every effort to ensure that the private sector can operate in a favorable environment by facilitating procedures related to doing business and investing. He also said the government will take advantage of more free-trade agreements that Cambodia has signed, such as the Cambodia-China and the Cambodia-Republic of Korea Free Trade Agreements and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP). He also mentioned further strengthening the logistics system through investment in infrastructure projects such as the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, the Phnom Penh-Poipet Expressway and the transformation of the coastal areas into multi-purpose special economic zones.
