Farmer Killed in Mine Explosion

BATTAMBANG: A man in Battambang province died on Tuesday after his tractor hit a mine while he was plowing a field.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Nget Narong from Po Chrey Village in Battambang Province. Sources at the scene confirmed that prior to the incident; the victim went to plant corn in a field that had not been plowed before, due to flooding. Because the weather has been so hot, the ground was very dry and the farmer needed a machine to till the land. Subsequently he was less likely to spot the mine, which split the tractor in two and killed him at the scene.

After the incident, relatives took the body to prepare for the traditional funeral.
