PHNOM PENH: Preliminary results are in for the registration of political parties and the list of candidates for the upcoming national election. The registration process took place between April 24 and May 8, 2023. Of the 20 political parties which applied to participate, 11 were officially recognized by the National Election Committee (NEC) and nine have been placed under review.

According to a press release issued by the NEC on May 8, the 11 official parties approved for participation in the July elections are: the Cambodian People’s Party, Cambodian Youth Party, Khmer United National Party, the Dharmacracy Party, Democracy Power Party, Cambodian Nationality Party, Khmer United Party, Khmer Conservative Party, FUNCINPEC, Beehive Social Democratic Party and People Purpose Party.

Meanwhile nine other parties are being examined for eligibility by the NEC, including: the Ekapheap Cheat Khmer Party, Women's Party for Women, Candlelight Party, Khmer Anti-Poverty Party, Khmer Economic Development Party, Indigenous People’s Democracy Party, Grassroots Democratic Party, Khmer United Great Nation Party and the Khmer Farmers Party.

The NEC closed the registration of political parties and candidates for the 2023 National Election on May 8 at 5:30pm. They confirmed that the process ran smoothly in accordance with established deadlines, regulations and procedures, which were overseen by political party representatives and election observers.
