HM The King Congratulates New President of Peru

Phnom Penh: His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, has sent a congratulatory letter to Mr. Pedro Castillo, the new President of Peru. Mr. Castillo was sworn in on Wednesday. He has never held political office before.

In his letter, His Majesty wrote, “On the auspicious occasion of Your Excellency's inauguration as President of the Republic of Peru, I wish to convey to Your Excellency my sincere congratulations and best wishes of success. The Kingdom of Cambodia has had long-standing relations of friendship and cooperation with the Republic of Peru. I am confident that these relations will be further strengthened under Your Excellency's Presidency.”

Pedro Castillo is the 63rd president of the Peru. He’s a former teacher and Peru’s first president with a rural background. He has never held public office before and campaigned on a promise of being a champion of the country’s poor. He has promised to rewrite the country’s constitution to make it more inclusive for ethnic and rural communities. He’s already announced that he has no intention of living in the presidential palace and will turn it into a museum.
