PHNOM PENH: A senior official of the Ministry of Agriculture has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the private sector regarding the artificial insemination of cows to boost Cambodia's agricultural industry and economy.
The signing ceremony of the MOU was held under the coordination of the Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ky Chanromduol, at the Peace Building of the Ministry of Agriculture on April 27, 2023.
Okna Srey Chanthou's i7 Ranch also signed the MoU along with three public higher education institutions: the Royal University of Agriculture, the Prek Leap National College of Agriculture, and the Kampong Cham National Institute of Agriculture.
Director of the Royal University of Agriculture, Ngor Bunthan, said that the MoU takes important steps in artificial insemination and promoting raising dairy cows which will help expand Cambodia’s agricultural economy. He went on to confirm that his school’s Faculty of Animal Sciences and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Research will work with private companies to optimize solutions; while about 15,000 students have 40 years combined of agricultural training nationwide. The universities are cooperating with relevant partners, especially the private sector to maximize manpower in the agricultural industry towards a more prosperous Cambodia.
Oknha Srey Chanthou, CEO of the i7 Cattle Ranch signed the MoU saying that the alliance with the Ministry of Agriculture will help his company strengthen human resources to increase artificial insemination practices and raise cows more efficiently. The company is using the latest technology and techniques from countries such as Australia, Brazil, the United States and Thailand.
"With artificial breeding techniques, one cow can produce 50 cows per year," he added.
