PM Guarantees Security and Punctuality for SEA Games Athletes

PHNOM PENH: In response to concerns expressed by a foreign publication about traffic issues in Phnom Penh during the upcoming SEA Games, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced that the safety and timeliness of athletes and foreign dignitaries would be guaranteed during their stay.

Speaking at a meeting with Cambodian SEA Games athletes at the Peace Palace on the afternoon of May 1, 2023, the PM stated that Cambodia is committed to addressing all issues of players competing in the SEA Games, including accommodation, food, safety and prompt transportation of players.

"I guarantee it, on my honor. I am responsible for all safety and timing issues of the games," he said.

The PM recalled the ASEAN summit in November, saying that no leader of any country missed their meetings as a result of traffic problems in Phnom Penh.

More than 12,000 athletes from 11 ASEAN countries will take part in the upcoming SEA and Para Games. Cambodia will host the opening ceremony of the SEA Games on May 5.
