Bokor City Deputy Governor Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge

KAMPOT: The Kampot Provincial Police has confirmed that authorities have arrested the Deputy Governor of Bokor City, Kim Panha, on a charge of domestic violence against his wife.

On Tuesday, 25 April 2023, the Kampot Provincial Police summoned the Deputy Governor of Bokor City to clarify domestic violence accusations made by his wife. The commissioner confirmed that after receiving a complaint from Kim Panha's wife and calling him in for questioning, the police instructed Kampot provincial governor, Mao Thunin, to follow instructions from the prosecutor to detain Kim Panha and continue the legal proceedings in court.

The victim, Kim Panha's wife, posted a message on her social media account describing the physical and mental pain she has received from her husband, accusing him of often hitting her. She added that she had called authorities several times to make her husband sign a contract vowing to stop the violence against her, however, until now there was no action taken. Her post was also accompanied by video proof of an altercation she had with her husband.

"We have been living together since 2019, and during this time, I never received love, only physical and mental pain," she wrote. "He repeatedly assaulted me, even though he had promised to stop using violence against me, but he kept beating me until now, and now I'm fed up and losing my endurance.”
