Sorn Dara Cuts Ties with Family

FRANCE: Anti-government activist Sorn Dara has announced on social media that he is cutting ties with his family.

The statement came just hours after Prime Minister Hun Sen warned that Sorn Dara's parents and siblings should be removed from their jobs because they could not keep Sorn Dara in line.

"I would like to announce that I am cutting ties with my family. No one can force me to obey," Sorn Dara wrote on his Facebook page on 25 April.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony for student teachers at the National Institute of Education on the morning of 25 April, the PM said that Sorn Dara is an arrogant child who should have some guidance.

"If your parents do not discipline you, I will remove them, including your brothers and sisters, from all their jobs, so do not be too rude," he said.

Sorn Dara is a 44-year-old philosophy professor and anti-government activist who lives abroad and continues to make videos attacking the Royal Government of Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Sen and Gen. Hun Manet, who is a West Point graduate and holds a PhD in economics from the UK.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that people like Sorn Dara often have a lot of pride in their intellect, but he questions whether Sorn Dara and other opposition members actually have the knowledge to defeat him, because they have never been able to before.
